Amy’s
first metal smithing class was twenty years ago as a freshman
in high school, and although she’s delved into many media since
then, she still loves metal. Her work is influenced by her time
at the Penland School and her studies in glassblowing, fibers,
metals, bookmaking, painting, and clay. She’s been fascinated
with silver clay, or PMC, as of late. It has all the sensuality
of soft, pliable clay, yet the satisfying glow and permanence
of metal. Metal clay also allows her to combine her fascination
with textures and her love of the temporality of the natural world
and history. She translates these ideas into lasting treasures.
Making beautiful, unique art-to-wear is Amy’s passion, and she
feels grateful to be able to do what she loves. When not crafting,
Amy can be found obsessing over music, doing yoga and massage,
rambling in the woods with her little girl, collecting stones
from creeks, and plotting her next craft project.
She makes all of her clasps and earwires by hand from sterling
silver, unless otherwise specified.
