Megan
Lightell was born and raised in a rural community in Ohio. After
earning a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2000,
she returned to the rural environment and began creating landscapes
as a response to the longing she had felt for the landscape while
living in an urban setting. Her work continues to explore the spiritual
and emotional connection that humans have with the land, although
the human presence is noticeably absent from her images. Instead,
she seeks to embrace a meditative quality through her paintings,
a reminder in an industrial world to reconnect to the land that
sustains us. Megan’s work is exhibited in galleries throughout the
country. She currently resides in Tennessee.
